Breaking: Container ship bound for China hit a breakwater as it was leaving port

According to media reports, a bulk vessel carrying soybeans collided with a sea wall while leaving Puerto Quequen, Argentina, for China on the night of November 28. This vessel TAI KNIGHTHOOD (IMO 9883845) was built in 2021 with a dead weight of 84,434 tonnes and was flagged in Liberia.

Puerto Quequen authorities said in an official statement that the TAI KNIGHTHOOD ship collided with the inside of the North jetty at around 10:45 p.m. local time Monday for reasons still being evaluated. With the assistance of tugs Rua Don Jose and Diamond Cay and a dredger, the ship TAI KNIGHTHOOD was brought to anchor 3.5 miles offshore and began inspection to determine the damage. The ship is not at risk of sinking.

An Argentine media report said authorities were trying to determine whether the collision with the jetty of TAI KNIGHTHOOD was caused by crew error or by the ship drifting after losing power. According to Puerto Quequen, the ship TAI KNIGHTHOOD was docked at the port for two days and three rounds before the accident. At 7:15 p.m. on November 28, the ship was docked and set sail for China at about 10:20 p.m.

"The ship TAI KNIGHTHOOD loaded at Puerto Quequen 25,100 tons of soybeans plus 47,500 tons upon arrival. The thood reached 72,600 tons dead weight. The crew is safe and the ship is being evaluated for possible repairs."
